Stichting Teran Foundation

Mission of the organisation

To help the sustainable development of North Mozambique by helping local communities to help themselves. We specialize in supporting local women and children. We work mainly via Women's Cooperatives, playgroups, and school support. In places with no to low formal education, we help with IT and literacy skills and empowering disadvantaged communities. After 13 years of living and working in the bush in mud hut villages, we now want to achieve something more lasting. The Government has given us the historic (but ruined) slave prison in Mossuril to turn into a Museum of Slavery. We will also restore a historic building on UNESCO World Heritage Mozambique Island into the Island's only computer school and a hub for advanced courses in coding and crypto currencies, with a permanent museum of ethnicity and an international library. In the shorter run, we also help with cyclone relief (raising 25,000 SD in 2008) and now again needing to help dozens of local people whose mud huts were destroyed in the recent cyclone from Madagascar in January 2018. We live and work in Mossuril which is off almost every NGO's map, so 4 months after the storm, hundreds of villagers are still homeless.
