In Pakistan, diarrhoea is the leading cause of infant and child deaths. Unfortunately, Sindh leads with both the highest number of cases of diarrhoea as well as the highest number of deaths of under-five (101 per 1,000), according to the study conducted by Aga Khan University Hospital. The situation is even worse in the rural areas of the country where 88 percent of the population lacks access to safe drinking water.

This micro-project will change the life of an orphan girl by providing her education in one of the best educational institutions in Mirpurkhas, Sindh, Pakistan. Sponsored orphan girl will get school books, shoe, bag and dress. Orphans are a vulnerable segment of our society and according to UNICEF report, Pakistan is home to 4.2 million orphaned children who are unattended and abandoned children, waiting for provision of facilities to them including housing, education, shelter and healthcare.

The studies have shown that 10%-15% of orphan children commit suicide before they reach age eighteen and studies show that 60% of the girls become prostitutes. The environment in which the majority of these orphans grow up is fraught with numerous challenges and access to basic rights such as education, employment, protection from abuse and exploitation, are all compromised. This project will provide vocational and life skills for decent living to 150 orphan girls of the age of 18-25 years.

The aim of collecting one dollar is to minimize sufferings of flood affected 1,161,392 men, women and children of those families who lost their 282,533 houses either fully or partially and living in self made tents on road sides in district Mirpurkhas of Sindh province of Pakistan.
