Mkanthama is one of the poorest rural communities in Lilongwe where access to education for children is very hard to find. The next school close to where our school project is situated is about 3 Kilometres away which is very difficult for children to walk to. In 2017 we started this school project so that children in this area can also have the opportunity to go to school and learn. Due to the closure of schools because of Covid-19 we started constructing a school block which has 3 classrooms.

Reusable sanitary pads are sustainable and easily renewable resource allowing the girls to wash and reuse them rather than having to buy disposable pads every month. In addition, they are comparatively inexpensive and environmentally friendly. We aim to target 600 girls in schools and it will roll out in the rural communities within the city of Lilongwe in 3 school namely Minga Community Day Secondary School, Chiwamba Community Day Secondary School and Mseche Secondary School

As 2022 is approaching, we at Building Futures in Malawi are raising funds for all our work next year. 2022 looks like it will be a very exciting year for us and in addition to our current projects we are working with the commissioner for refugees in the hope of delivering an education programme in Dzaleka Refugee Camp which is close to our base in Lilongwe and Teressa has been developing a relationship with the girls in prison to help with their education and rehabilitation.
