Mission

We seek to improve the habitability conditions as well as promote resilience of indigenous, rural communities in Mexico by facilitating a sustainable self-management of the social, economic and environmental factors for rural development. We employ holistic approaches that recover traditional knowledge and improve the relationship between society and nature.

After a magnitude 8.2 earthquake in the south of Mexico, more than 60,000 houses were damaged in Oaxaca state. In response, we developed a project with communities of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region, that includes reconstruction of housing, kitchens and ovens; by recovering traditional knowledge and techniques and reinforcing the dwellings against earthquakes and strong winds. All the people involved in construction also participate in the reforestation project.

Mexico

In 2013 we started to work in comprehensive reconstruction and disaster reduction in the Mountain of Guerrero, after hurricanes Ingrid and Manuel hit the region where 85% of the indigenous population in the state is settled. The work carried out has resulted in a considerable level of appropriation and cultural revaluation of adobe as a secure construction system. More communities are now interested in our projects. Currently we are building with the families 20 secure and sustainable houses.
