Ukraine

Russia's attack on Ukraine has led to major civilian harm and massive displacement. The conflict has the potential to be the largest military action in Europe since WWII. U.S. intelligence projects up to 50,000 people could be killed or wounded. Further violence will devastate Ukraine's already weakened infrastructure. The country's health system is fragile, and its economy has declined drastically. Food and fuel shortages are likely to be acute, and public services rendered non-functioning.

United States

Families escaping gang violence and persecution in Central America are undertaking a dangerous journey to seek safety in the US. Seeking asylum at the United States border is legal-even during a pandemic. People travel to the southern U.S. border to seek refuge, including from political turmoil and rampant violence in Central America. While Trump Administration policies have left behind a broken asylum system, President Joe Biden can take bold action to create a safe, orderly and fair system.

The U.S. accepts a limited number of refugees each year, setting record-low admission caps these past few years. Trump slashed refugee admissions by over 85% and it will take years to repair this damage. Help the IRC deliver critical assistance to families in the U.S. who have fled war or persecution, including: education, livelihoods training, youth programs, and citizenship assistance to refugees and other vulnerable immigrant populations.

When an emergency strikes, the International Rescue Committee arrives on the scene within 72 hours to assess the need and deliver urgent aid to people fleeing war, violence, or disaster. As one of the first organizations to respond in major humanitarian emergencies, we work diligently to gain an understanding of what resources are needed, so we can save as many lives as possible. We then commit to staying as long as we are needed.
