Mission

Our core belief is that disaster response begins with preparedness, and that both disaster preparedness and response should integrate the efforts of governments, militaries, NGOs and the private sector. By strengthening disaster preparedness, response and recovery, PWA seeks to reduce the high human, political and economic costs of natural disasters and man-made conflicts around the world.

The crisis in Syria forced hundreds of thousands of Syrian families to flee, many to neighboring Iraq. Peace Winds has been assisting families providing shelter, infrastructure, schooling, and livelihoods in northern Iraq/Kurdistan for more than 20 years. Peace Winds continues to assist victims of disasters. In 2018, earthquakes, typhoons, floods, landslides even heatwaves struck Japan. This year 2019 had seen few disasters enabling Peace Winds to continue to help 2018 victims and communities recover, moving into their homes/schools/day-care centers, and providing medical care. In response to the October 2019 typhoon Hagibis, Peace Winds is providing rescue, relief (food and non-food items), shelter, and medical aid. Please join us.

Each year, thousands of wildfires burn through the western United States, destroying millions of acres of land including grasslands and forests as well as homes and towns. Residents of these areas must evacuate, sometimes with little warning, grabbing whatever essentials they can. Many never get to return home as their houses and belongings are destroyed by the fires. Peace Winds is partnering with local chapters of the American Red Cross to bring relief and recovery to survivors of these disast

Disaster Recovery
Haiti

While Peace Winds has been able to help more than 1,600 households rebuild their homes and 120 disabled Haitians become more independent in the last year, these survivors of the August 2021 7.2 magnitude earthquake still have a long road to recovery. Disabled Haitians are especially vulnerable and unable to support themselves or their families. The need for food distribution among these families is at an extreme level. Peace Winds has a goal to provide food kits to 70 of these desperate families

COVID-19
Bangladesh

There are growing fears of the substantial human impact with the arrival of COVID-19 within particularly vulnerable populations across Africa and Asia. Refugee and displaced communities do not have the luxury of safe space, clean water, soap, or medical care should they become sick. This is where Peace Winds is assisting communities in some of the world's poorest countries, utilizing our expertise in sanitation and hygiene promotion, community education & health worker training.
