Addressing Homelessness and Poverty in ORLANDO
Story
Project Downtown Orlando, a nonprofit organization, is addressing homelessness and poverty in the downtown Orlando area.
Impact
By working collaboratively with other organizations and agencies, Project Downtown Orlando is helping to build a more coordinated and effective response to the problem. Ultimately, these efforts are likely to have a positive impact not only on the individuals who receive support and assistance but also on the wider community as a whole. By addressing issues of homelessness and poverty, Project Downtown Orlando is helping to build a stronger and more resilient community.
Challenge
As of 2020, there were a total of 1,989 homeless individuals in Orange County, which includes downtown Orlando. Of those, 1,246 were considered unsheltered, meaning they were living in a place not meant for human habitation, such as on the streets or in abandoned buildings.
