Books and Education for Children in Rural Peru
Story
The Picaflor House Community Outreach Programme improves access to and quality of education for children in rural villages around Cusco. Online learning has excluded many rural children from education, due to lack of access to the internet and computing devices. Our Mobile Library takes books, teachers and other learning resources to help 200 children re-engage with education and catch-up academically.
Impact
Improved access to education through this project will help 200 children catch up academically after two years out of school. The project helps children re-engage with education, ensuring more return to and stay in school. In the long term, this outreach programme aims to improve education quality in rural villages, allowing children to access better opportunities in the future.
Challenge
Despite advances in other areas, such as poverty, education quality in Peru ranks very low on a global scale. Online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic has caused even further decline in education quality. Additionally, children in rural areas are less likely than their urban peers to have access to online learning platforms. This project brings educational resources to 200 rural children who have had no access to formal education for two full years.
