COVID-19: help women victims of violence
Story
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, the number of calls from women victims of violence has increase by 70%. In only 2 months, we provided as much assistance as we did for the whole year least year. We provided urgent accommodation, psychological and financial support to over 70 women. We need to keep our effort to bring solutions to endangered women especially in these times of increased domestic violence. Help us to continue supporting abused women.
Impact
In a 2 months period, we did 151 hours of help and support for a total of 70 people, of whom more than 90% were women. As the crisis period continues and a new deterioration is expected, we can predict another increase in domestic violence. Moreover, the damage caused by the COVID crisis to the economy will have a direct impact on women. We expect a large increase of women in critical situations that will require our help.
Challenge
The current situation caused by the COVID-19 virus is critical regarding domestic violence. In Croatia, the government and social norms are failing victims of this violence (lack of counseling, shelters, SOS helpline, crisis centers, etc.). This is why we are witnessing an enormous increase in domestic violence that needs to end. We are working everyday to help abused women escape from dangerous situations.
