Drinking Water for 500 Threatened Farmers
Story

A Solar Water Pumping System will be installed in a farming community located in the City of Dasmarinas, Cavite in the Philippines to provide potable water for drinking and domestic use. It aims to provide also at least 15 drums of water daily for vegetable crop irrigation and backyard livestock raising for income and sustained livelihood of around 500 farmers constantly experiencing threats of eviction from their land. This will help provide the infrastructure needed by the community

Impact

Access to clean and potable water will provide health benefits to the community such as the prevention of water-borne diseases. This will also reduce the burden to children and women fetching water from distant sources. The improvement of productive capacities of the farm will ensure that households can have safe and nutritious food on the table, three square meals a day, boosting their immune system especially as the pandemic goes on. Life for farmers ensured than their land taken by business

Challenge

Around 500 organized farmers in a commercializing area in Barangay Lakandula, Dasmarinas City, Cavite, located 100 kilometers south of Manila, have been deprived of water services like irrigation for vegetable, corn, and rice crop production for their livelihood. The lack of efficient water distribution system hinders their community to optimize the potential yield of the land they till, keeping their own food supply scarce and income low. Businessmen keep evicting them to get their land
