Earthquake Relief for Our Partners in the South
Story
Once again Haiti is experiencing another catastrophe. On Saturday, August 14, 2021, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck at 8:20 am. The latest official toll from the Office of Civil Protection speaks of 2189 dead, 12,268 injured and 15,000 houses destroyed or damaged. Lambi Fund of Haiti is among the organizations on the ground responding to urgent calls to provide relief assistance to the victims.
Impact
Thousands of peasant organization members and their families will benefit, and thousands of community members will be positively affected by the reinstatement of activities geared towards food security and income producing initiatives in the South of Haiti.
Challenge
In the Southern Department, Lambi serves about 60 Organizations (average 100 members per organization.) Almost all of these organizations have contacted the Lambi Fund for assistance as they are accustomed to doing in the event of such natural disasters. Representatives of 26 peasant associations have already sent their damage assessments to Lambi Fund. Here is a partial summary: 76 people have already lost their lives 1687 houses demolished 2729 houses damaged 279 injured (15 serious)
