Across East Africa, millions of people are facing famine. A severe climate-crisis-induced drought is causing the dire situation, coupled with regional conflict, the prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and soaring food prices tied to the war in Ukraine. Your donation to the East Africa Hunger Relief Fund will provide emergency relief, food, water, medicine, and other essential supplies to people in need.

Impact

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are often in the best position to provide long-term support for communities facing famine. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger disaster-response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future famine risks. GlobalGiving will post reports about how funds have been used and will email these reports to donors and subscribers.

Challenge

Nearly 20 million people across five East African nations, including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan, are at risk of starvation. The hunger crisis is expected to worsen over the coming months as prolonged drought and the war in Ukraine continue to drive up food prices. A united and global response is vital for survival in these communities.
