Educate 225 Kids by Sending Them to Preschool
Story
OBAT understands the importance of early childhood education and the essential role it plays in the future academic success of the student. This role takes on an even greater importance in an environment where poverty reigns supreme and educating children is not a priority. For this reason, OBAT runs several preschools that focus on educating little kids living in slum like camps in Bangladesh. Without OBAT's support, the likelihood of these kids going to school is almost nonexistent.
Impact
The camp residents have no resources for admission in mainstream government schools. Thus, over 90% of them are illiterate and only 10 % of their kids are in elementary schools. Preschools play a vital role in empowering the kids by facilitating their admission in elementary schools, thus putting them on a path to addressing illiteracy within their community. The impact from educating these 225 kids will last over several future generations as they will in turn ensure education for their progeny
Challenge
In Bangladesh, the Urdu speaking (also known as Bihari or stranded Pakistanis) kids live in unimaginable poverty in camps where there's no concept of literacy. Earlier generations have been living here since 45 years. They have no access to education and hence earn petty incomes. Continuing illiteracy will perpetuate their poverty and confine them to minimum wage, laborious jobs. Some older siblings of these kids need to work to supplement the family income, they never got the chance to study.
