Educate street children in rural India
Story
We believe in equal education, especially important in slums where the uneducated are targets for opportunists. 10 years after India's Right to Education Act guaranteed education for all up to 10 std, 75,000 children are still missing from our state classrooms. Our schools are vital in encouraging & supporting children to complete12 std & enroll in higher education. Counselling, personal development & extracurricular activities provide extra knowledge, self-belief & hope.
Impact
100% school attendance in our slums means no child labour or marriage, & our slum children have achieved a 400% increase in A & B grades & our English medium school has a 100% pass rate in 10 std. By educating their children many slum dwellers are learning the true value of education & investing in additional personal tutoring classes for their children. With staff recruited from the slums our support reaches beyond the classroom with improvements in the health, sanitation & wellbeing of all.
Challenge
75,000 children in our state are missing from school. Our slums are home to migrant & daily wage workers, tribal communities, single parents, the disabled, addicts & petty criminals. Poverty & illiteracy are high & education has not been a priority. By educating children we are uplifting & giving entire communities brighter futures. COVID has closed all schools & colleges & cancelled exams but we are able to continue their education through online classes via mobile phones.
