Post-Secondary Education for Students in Tanzania
Story

This project builds on our prior success with supporting youth in accessing secondary education. Our expanded goal is to provide support to students who are pursuing post-secondary education (i.e., high school, vocational training, diploma and certificate programs, and university). We are seeking to ensure that education doesn't end with secondary school for successful and aspiring Tanzanian youth. Help us add more doctors, engineers, nurses, teachers, economists and more to Tanzania.

Impact

The long-term impact of our scholarship program is a return on investment for the village and the country. The students are empowered with increased education. They develop their English language proficiency, which increases opportunities for work in various sectors (e.g. technology, education, tourism, medicine). Hopefully, they bring their big ideas from school back to the village where they can be game changers in their communities. Already graduates include doctors, pharmacists, economists!

Challenge

Project Wezesha covers fees for post-secondary education: high school, vocational school, diploma and certificate programs, and university. We also work with families to cover some of the additional costs, such as transportation to schools, texts, and other resources. Most village-based families are subsistence farmers and fishermen who do not have much additional money to cover these costs, but they contribute what they can.
