Give Education to Rural Children in Tajikistan
Story
This project will improve access to quality education by rural children in Tajikistan through the construction of new and renovation of existing school facilities in remote rural areas of the country. We identify the priority projects in collaboration with the local communities and education departments. We apply a participatory approach to ensure transparency, effectiveness, and efficiency. We already implemented similar initiatives, for more information please see our reports.
Impact
The project will ensure access to quality education by rural underprivileged children in Tajikistan through the construction of new and renovation of existing school facilities. The project beneficiaries will have access to quality education and gain the necessary basic skills to further pursue their education; learn occupation and establish their lives. This, in turn, would alleviate poverty; support the overall socio-economic development of the regions and well-being of the Tajik nation.
Challenge
Tajikistan is the poorest ex-soviet country. Although the education's share in the country's budget is the highest among the social sectors (16.9%), it covers mainly the school workers' wages and leaves little funding for infrastructure. Due to the dynamically increasing population by 2.4% annually and the scarce budget resources, Tajikistan has been facing a serious challenge to provide access to school places. This issue is particularly severe in remote rural districts with poor income.
