Enabling Opportunities for 50 Venezuelan Refugees
Story
Humanity is going through one of the toughest crises in history. Vulnerable communities, such as Venezuelan refugees, have been financially affected by COVID19. Through our POETA Program, we seek to empower Venezuelan refugees in Latin America by providing digital, entrepreneurial and technical skills training to access employment or start small businesses. As well as fostering the creation of support networks to access local resources to improve the integration in receiving communities.
Impact
After three years of implementation, 50 Venezuelan refugees will be integrated into host communities as economically independent individuals contributing to economic prosperity in their communities. Many migrants and underserved people will have upgraded their skills, thus making them stronger individuals to pursue a career, begin and strengthen their entrepreneurship.
Challenge
The UN forecasts a total of 6.5 million displaced Venezuelans by the end of 2020. Venezuelan migrants and refugees tend to be easy targets of violence, human trafficking, discrimination, and human rights violations. Therefore, making them one of the most vulnerable groups in the Americas. Their highest priority is finding formal sector economic opportunities for families to be safe, have shelter, food, and financial independence.
