Story

This project will provide 10,000 Meals on Wheels to older adults. Since 1975 we have served over one million meals to hungry homebound seniors and the disabled. So many elders need a nutritious daily meal, companionship, and someone to check up on them. This meal can be the difference between being able to live at home or having to move into an assisted living facility. The need for support continues to grow. Please help us provide more meals than ever to hungry seniors.

Impact

There are no neighborhoods without seniors; and these seniors often face a high risk of hunger and isolation if they have no support. LIFE ElderCare addresses that. By providing nutritious meals every day, we improve the health, well-being, and quality of life for vulnerable elders. And when seniors have reliable access to healthy food, our neighborhoods and communities become stronger and the long-term public tax burden and Medi-Cal and Medicare costs drastically decreases as well!

Challenge

Hunger and malnutrition is an alarming problem for U.S. seniors. 11.4% of those over 65 experience food insecurity each year. The Mayo Clinic states that along with financial limitations, physical, social and psychological factors contribute to senior hunger. They often have to choose between paying for medicines or paying for groceries. Others have debilitating conditions that impede their ability to shop and prepare meals. Seniors who live in isolation are significantly more prone to hunger.
