Story
ARF needs your support to continue providing daily lifesaving health and human rights services, health materials, legal advise and support to disadvantaged people who use drugs in Moscow, Russia. Disbursement suspension in Russia and Belarus: null
Impact
ARF believes that the society should be able to protect and support its most vulnerable members. If the government refuses to pay attention, the communities are there to provide support. ARF helps people who use drugs to protect their health, well-being, dignity and human rights. We help to prevent HIV and hepatitis, avert overdose, get legal aid and mental health support. We give people hope and empower them to improve their lives and lives of our communities.
Challenge
HIV epidemic is growing in Russia, especially among people who use drugs. The health authorities oppose effective prevention programs, such as harm reduction for ideological reasons. ARF is the only organization in Moscow that provides harm reduction services to people who use drugs. Unfortunately, most domestic and international donors do not finance HIV prevention in Russia any more. As a result, ARF relies a lot on private donations to provide health and legal services and advocacy work.
