Help Educate Women & Girls in Afghanistan
Story
Help us support the operations of two mobile schools that serve nearly 500 boys and girls of all ages by them teaching basic literacy skills. High priority needs for 2022 include computer literacy training, online learning, computer equipment, literacy programs, vocational training, teacher education, health workshops for women, and maintaining strong relationships with grassroots organizations in Afghanistan.
Impact
With Afghanistan's current political climate in mind, Sahar is partnering with grassroots organizations in the country to support them in providing educational opportunities for girls and women. Collaborating with grassroots organizations will not only empower Afghan youth but will also ensure the sustainability of our work in promoting girls' education.
Challenge
The expected years of schooling for girls in Afghanistan is among the lowest in the world (7.2 years), and much lower than for boys (11.3 years). Unfortunately, the fall of the Islamic Republic and Taliban's takeover of the country has further halted girls' education. On March 23, 2022 the Taliban reversed their decision to open girls' schools and continued the ban on girls' education above grade 6 indefinitely. Millions of girls are now banned from schools and long to resume their education.
