Help Strengthen the Resilience of Syrian Refugees
Story

Now in its tenth year, the Syrian civil war has sparked one of the greatest humanitarian crises in modern history, uprooting an estimated 11.5 million Syrians - nearly half of the country's pre-war population. Since July 2013, Concern Worldwide has worked with displaced persons within Syria and with refugees and vulnerable host families in Lebanon and Turkey to meet basic needs, improve access to health care, and provide psycho-social support.

Impact

By combining our global experience with local expertise, Concern has reached nearly 1 million people both inside Syria and in the neighboring countries of Turkey and Lebanon since 2013. Concern continues to expand existing programs and implement new efforts as more funds become available. Through these activities, we are working to strengthen the resilience of Syrian refugees, so they can protect their families, retain their dignity, and have the best hope for productive lives in the future.

Challenge

With nearly 5.5 million Syrian refugees living in Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan, there is huge pressure on host countries to provide essential services. For all refugees, but especially those living outside government camps, securing safety, healthcare, nutrition, education, and livelihoods is a constant challenge. These hardships also persist for those who remain in Syria, where the portion of the population below the international poverty line has grown from 10% to 80% over the last ten years.
