Help Students, Families and Schools Recover
Story
This project will continue the work of TAMF in three areas: - Taylor Anderson Reading Corners (Bunkos) - donate books shelves with English books to Ishinomaki schools to encourage students to enjoy English and to become future bridges between the U.S. and Japan. Support book clubs which use the bunko's. - High School Exchange programs between Ishinomaki and Richmond, VA. to promote relations. - Donate "Taylor Award" trophy to English speech competition champions in Ishinomaki JH schools.
Impact
The Reading Corners and book club help bring the community together as they rebuild their lives and determine their future. The exchange program not only helps each participant individually, but helps build a bridge between our two countries by allowing people in each country to connect, build relationships and have confidence in their future. The Taylor Award encourages students to acquire higher English language skills and become bridges between two countries.
Challenge
Most victims have lived in temporary housing and moved to their public-running houses. It is now prohibited to live in the most heavily affected area so communities have been lost. Children lost their friends and place to play. More children are traumatized and stop going to school or behave badly. Our TAMF programs try to nurture those children to find their dreams and hopes in spite of those difficulties through English language culture.
