Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund
Story
Hurricane Fiona has caused widespread destruction and catastrophic flooding in multiple locations, killing at least 16 people, cutting off access to running water, and spurring island-wide power outages in Puerto Rico near the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria. Communities in the Dominican Republic and Canada are also facing major damage and displacement after Fiona hit. Your donation to the Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund will provide immediate and long-term relief in affected communities.
Impact
We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like Hurricane Fiona. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges. GlobalGiving will post reports about how funds have been used and will email these reports to donors.
Challenge
Most people in Puerto Rico are without power after Hurricane Fiona and uncertain when it will be restored, and thousands are displaced in shelters. Many Puerto Ricans fear months without electricity, as happened when Hurricane Maria hit. Your donation to the Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund will meet emergency needs, such as the provision of food, water, and shelter, and provide long-term support in affected communities, including in the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, and Canada.
