Inclusion and Creative Project
Story
When youth feel isolated, it brings social anxiety. This creates tendencies for youth who feel like they do not have support to have an increase of conflicts with their peers. With your support, we will be able to offer 50 youth in Los Angeles County: 1. Conflict resolution training and mediation 2. Leadership engagement training 3. Self care activities and coaching 4. Community Service Projects 5. Reflection and personal action plans 6. Recognition activities - Community/family connection
Impact
1. 90% of participants will report an increase in interpersonal and nonverbal communication measured surveys. 2. 85% percent of participants will be able to diagnose social conflicts. Our long term impact: Youth will: Feel like they have caring adults working with them, Feel like their voice is being heard, Feel like they are prepared to deal with conflict and challenging situations in their life, and Feel like they are connected to opportunities to help them thrive after high school.
Challenge
In Southern Ca., there is an increase of youth who feel disconnected to school or to their community. They report they have trouble dealing with conflict. "I was removed from a traditional high in order to support my family. I became socially awkward, but what makes it worse is that I felt isolated. So not only did I lack in the areas of communication, I felt dissociated from my peers. I believe every child should embrace their inner voice and it should be heard." Alicia - Project Leader
