Story

LIFT International seeks freedom through justice for survivors. We partner with governments, grassroots organisations, law enforcement, and international agencies to hold offenders accountable. We believe in prevention through prosecution. We work to disrupt offenses, secure fair sentences and put traffickers out of business because we know justice is a powerful deterrent. We advocate for victims and survivors of sexual exploitation to protect their rights and increase their access to justice.

Impact

In 2022, the project will contribute to the removal of 40 trafficking victims, from harm. It will support the prosecution of 15 trafficking cases and filling of financial restitution for 8 victims and conviction of 15 offenders. The project will also support social workers to continue case management support to victims. It will also enable LIFT to continue meetings with officials within the Thai government to advocate and support policy changes to further deter human trafficking.

Challenge

Thailand is a hub for traffickers due to large numbers of migrants, the sex work industry which dominates tourist areas and lesser known locations, and inequities which pressure youth and children from poor families to migrate to urban areas to engage in sex work, all of which put these populations at risk of exploitation. Approximately 610,000 trafficking victims exist in Thailand, 60% of which is from sex trafficking. The project will identify and protect victims, and prosecute offenders.
