Story

This project will support 150 youths develop entrepreneurial skills and launch their own businesses in the Kibra Slum. These students have been apart of the high school mentorship program and have been selected to continue into the Entrepreneurial Training program on account of their diligence and hard work. They will also recieve support creating a business plan, registering their business, legal help, connecting to the business community and continued mentorship and professional support.

Impact

This project will train 150 girls and boys with entrepreneurial skills and help launch their own businesses or connect them with meaningful projects. All the project beneficiaries will be equipped with employment skills. This project will help start businesses and create jobs in Kibra slum, thus helping with the local economy and keeping youth and young adults off the street.

Challenge

Kibera slum is the second largest urban slum in sub-sahara Africa and it is home to over 300,000 people. It is estimated that a family of 5 in Kibera live under 2 dollars a day. This makes it difficult for most families to pay school fees, hence they end up dropping out of school. it is estimated that 80% of boys in Kibera graduate from high school compared to 47% of girls. After graduating the next big hurtle is there are little opportunities for employment or higher education.
