Localize Access to Renewable Energies in Morocco
Story
This campaign helps the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) to implement projects for the decentralization of renewable energies in Morocco, especially in rural areas. These small-scale projects will reduce energy dependency, preserve the environment, limit greenhouse gas emissions, fight against climate change, and provide jobs for rural people. Women, youth, and children are the core target of these investments.
Impact
Small-scale RE projects are very important in rural areas where communities suffer the most from poverty. The program and its partnerships also incorporate the implementation of community-managed, value-added projects that serve the water-energy-food nexus, building local technical skills, and strengthening the inhabitants to manage sustainable projects and reinvest in human development.
Challenge
Morocco is the energy pioneer on the African continent. The country is making very rapid progress in the deployment of renewable energy projects. Several renewable energy projects have been initiated, but the trend is toward large-scale initiatives. A few small-scale projects have been implemented in Morocco, but this remains insufficient to achieve sustainable development and to enable a successful transition to 100 percent renewable energy.
