Madagascar Famine Relief Fund
Story
Madagascar is facing one of the world's first climate-caused famines. More than one million people need help right now. The famine follows four years of intense droughts, with conditions worsened as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Impact
We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of climate-related disasters. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future famines. GlobalGiving will post reports about how funds have been used and will email these reports to donors.
Challenge
Hundreds of thousands of people in Southern Madagascar, including infants and children, are malnourished and at risk of death by starvation. Food is extremely scarce as a result of droughts and COVID-19 hardships. Some people have resorted to eating locusts and mud.
