Mexico, Puebla and Morelos Earthquake Relief
Story
ICF has been working consistently with local organizations to provide disaster relief to communities affected by the two earthquakes that greatly damaged central Mexico last year. Currently we are seeking to improve the longer term resilience of communities to rebuild themselves, including capitalizing on the opportunities to improve community enterprises.
Impact
In the coming weeks we will be reimbursing our grantees for any short-term relief efforts they have been carrying out, and aim to align our grantmaking with long-term reconstruction efforts once there is more clarity from the government, civil society, and private sectors on next steps.
Challenge
The earthquakes, which hit on the 32nd anniversary of the historic 1985 Mexico City earthquake and on September 8th of 2017, with a magnitude of 8.1, have caused significant damage and deaths throughout communities in central Mexico as well as in southern states such as Oaxaca and Chiapas.
