Protect Ambue Ari Wildlife Sanctuary from Fire
Story
Help protect CIWY's Ambue Ari Sanctuary and its wildlife! The 2020 wildfires destroyed over 400 hectares of Ambue Ari's land. In 2021 we managed to keep the fires off our land, thanks to amazing volunteers and donors like you. Please help us protect this critical wildlife habitat from increasingly severe Amazon fires.
Impact
If successful, 983 hectares of Amazon rainforest will be protected from fires. You will play a part in safeguarding the incredible species that live wild and free in this critical habitat, including the jaguar, puma, ocelot, tapir, howler monkey, and giant anteater. CIWY helps preserve the biodiversity of Amazonian fauna by rescuing and protecting a wide array of animals, including endangered species. CIWY also educates the public to respect wildlife and the environment.
Challenge
The widespread practice of slash-and-burn agriculture, coupled with the effects of climate change, results in devastating forest fires throughout the Amazon. CIWY's Ambue Ari sanctuary comprises 983 hectares of Amazon rainforest -- 30% of the area is devoted to the rehabilitation of rescued wildlife in natural habitat, while the majority of the land is left untouched. An incredible diversity of wildlife lives here, including many threatened and endangered species.
