Protect Children from Sex Trafficking in Thailand
Story
The HUG Project Thailand is preventing, protecting, and restoring children from sexual abuse and human trafficking. By partnering with police, schools, communities, families, and children themselves, HUG is helping to bring JUSTICE to those who harm children sexually, and HEALING to survivors. Founder, Boom Mosby, has been recognized by the US State Department as a Trafficking In Persons HERO (the first Thai woman to receive this honor) and by Vital Voices as a Global Human Rights Leader.
Impact
As an active member of the TICAC (Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children) task force, the TATIP (Thailand Anti-Trafficking In Persons) task force, and the CACT (Children's Advocacy Center Thailand) system, HUG has supported over 200 cases (including Child Pornography, Child Sexual Abuse, and Human Trafficking). Also, the HUG team has personally assisted over 100 survivors toward recovery. Because of the global nature of these crimes, the potential for impact is many thousands of children.
Challenge
The sexual exploitation of children continues to expand exponentially worldwide- involving increasingly younger victims and more extreme violence. (NY Times, September 2019). This horror is especially prevalent in Southeast Asia, where perpetrators are orchestrating and watching abuse on live-streaming websites. (The Asean Post, May 2019). The HUG Project is in a unique position to effect change both on the ground and at the policy level in Thailand- to convict offenders and care for survivors.
