Protecting Lions
Story
In just 20 years, African lion populations have fallen by 43% and as few as 20,000 remain in the wild today. Now extinct in 24 of their former range states, we urgently need to address the threats facing this iconic species. David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) supports anti poaching-initiatives and funds research and monitoring surveys to make sure lions are given the best chance of survival.
Impact
Lions are one of the most vulnerable mammals on the planet and DSWF is committed to addressing the threats faced by this iconic species. By adopting a holistic approach to conservation which tackles wildlife crime, protects lions and engages with local communities, we continue our 35-year legacy to protect lions in their natural habitat. The vita research into lion populations and distrbution also ensures human-wildlife conflict is reduced and addressed to the benefit of both lions and humans.
Challenge
Now extinct in 24 of their former range states, there is an urgent need to address the threats facing lions and their survival. Habitat destruction, human wildlife conflict and the illegal wildlife trade all pose serious threats to wild populations. To find out more, please click the link below.
