Story

Ubon Ratchathani is home to many Thai migrant workers who have lost their jobs and returned home from Bangkok due to do the COVID-19 pandemic. We have an already-existing infant formula program in partnership with the Thai government's Department of Social Development & Welfare. We will be delivering food and infant formula with the Thai government to families who have been identified as most in need. We hope to bridge the gap for families until they can go back to work when the economy reopens.

Impact

Families are the fabric of society. If we can help provide basic needs for a short time to families in distress, Thai society will be a safer and more vibrant place to raise a family in the future. Infants will also be healthier because they will receive the nourishment they need. We always encourage and promote breast feeding first, but these are mothers who no longer have breast milk to provide.

Challenge

Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand is home to many Thai migrant workers who have lost their jobs and returned home from Bangkok due to do the COVID-19 pandemic. A large number of these workers are mothers who have left their babies with grandparents or other family members to raise in rural villages. Our local news reported on the suicide of a mother who had lost her job and was distressed about not being able to provide milk to her two children this week. We want to give mothers like her hope.
