Provide meals for Syrian and Lebanese refugees
Story
The project aims to support 400 Syrian and Lebanese families residing in the Damour area.Twice a week our local representative "Oui pour la vie" provides them balanced meals from a nutritional point of view. Thanks to this initiative,2000 children and their parents have the chance to enjoy a full meal. The repast consists of vegetables, rice, a main course of meat or fish and fruit. Besides this service, our operators try to help families in their daily basic needs, such as shelter, medicines etc
Impact
Since the project started and the kitchen has made operational, the initiative has demonstrated considerable success: more and more families are coming to the "Oui Pour la Vie" headquarters in order to request their participation. The project has a huge potential and it represents a valuable resource for the impoverished families. Furthermore, OPV can count on a lot of volunteers always willing to help.
Challenge
In recent years, in addition to the already existing poverty and the numerous waves of refugees coming from Syria and Iraq, the population of the area has had to deal with essential goods increase price. The poor neighbourhoods in Beirut outskirts are overcrowded, as well as the homes where people live reach even 20 persons per apartment. Because of this complicated situation, many Lebanese and Syrian families can no longer buy food. Feeding in a balanced manner has become impossible.
