Rehabilitate 1000 Persons w/Disabilities in Nepal
Story
Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) living in remote Himalayan districts of Nepal have little or no access to physiotherapy or assistive devices. People have to walk days to reach the nearest health facility. One can only imagine what the situation is for PWDs who are confined to their homes. This project targets those 1000 PWDs who are in compelling need of basic health, physiotherapy and assistive services close to their homes, hence, improving their overall social, mental and physical health.
Impact
With this initiative, the most vulnerable group in our most remote and deprived communities will have access to basic physiotherapy, primary health care services, and assistive devices. They will be trained and given resources to improve their quality of life and their families quality of life. Through our advocacy and support, people with disabilities will be able to have the physical help and support needed to benefit them in the long term for a more successful life.
Challenge
In remote communities, people have negative perceptions of PWDs. Most PWDs are of low economic status and are unaware of their basic constitutional rights and the allowances/facilities they should receive from the government. Health facilities are also scarce with limited health professionals. Accessing these facilities is a challenge due to lack of roadways and lack of Assistive Devices. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has added further difficulties to access these health services.
