Renovation/Humanization - Intensive Pediatric Unit
Story
Within the Children's Dept, the haematology unit welcomes children from birth to 18, to manage treatments, relapses and palliative care (450 stays/year). The rooms are under controlled pressure, some with airlocks, because the children here have very weakened immune defenses. The rooms are very old and in need of complete renovation, with modern materials and equipment, adapted to children: your donation will make a difference for future generations of young patients.
Impact
In addition to offering better antimicrobial security to avoid difficulties/relapses and to improving comfort during their stay, it has been shown that a suitable environment provides important psychological support that helps the child to heal. The impact is also important to better return to "normal" life, for those who can heal. It also gives better conditions for families who must accompagny the end of life of their child.
Challenge
These Children experience "extreme conditions" during their hospital stay: separation from home/ prolonged stay (several weeks)/ draconian antimicrobial isolation/ accommodation reduced to functionality / life under constant threat (unthinkable at this age). However, the equipments are old and not fully adapted to children.
