"Speak Volume With Your Action" Campaign
Story
In Nigeria, evidence has shown that laws alone have not been successful in preventing sexual violence and increasing access to justice. Hence, the need for a survivor-centred and community approach would touch hearts and stimulate reflections that lead to tangible actions and improve the SGBV response. We want to continue to create awareness by showcasing survivor stories through an art exhibition, particularly to amplify and give voice to women and girls who have lost theirs due to abuse.
Impact
The "what was she wearing" Campaign will improve community understanding and change the negative perception around victim-blaming, leading to increased reporting and a break in the culture of silence around reporting.
Challenge
According to NDHS 2018 report, evidence suggests that among women aged 15-49, 31% have experienced physical violence, 9% have experienced sexual violence, and 36% of ever-married women have experienced spousal physical, sexual and emotional violence. More so, women who live in communities experiencing conflicts are even more vulnerable to experiencing violence and the COVID -19 pandemic has further exposed the extent to which violence against women is prevalent in the communities we work in.
