STERILISE 1000 ANIMALS AND PREVENT SUFFERING
Story
Uncontrolled pet populations result in untold suffering to the thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens being born every single day. This project will see the sterilisation of 1000 animals, making you a proactive partner in the fight against animal cruelty. It will also aid community health in impoverished areas by preventing the transmission of zoonotic diseases between sick animals and humans.
Impact
Sterilisation decreases the burden on already over-crowded animal shelters, limits the financial burden for animal welfare and humanely controls pet populations resulting in healthier communities and a reduction in animal cruelty cases.
Challenge
South African pet populations are uncontrolled. Many animals are being left to breed indiscriminately resulting in untold suffering to the many unwanted puppies and kittens that are being born daily. Unwanted animals get no primary veterinary treatments to prevent dreaded disease and no ecto/endo parasite control. Aside from the obvious neglect they suffer and the often cruel treatment they are subjected to, these animals pose a risk to public health via zoonotic disease transmission.
