Support 500 Kosovo Youth Learn by Volunteering
Story
This project trains and mentors 50+ teachers and youth workers from all over Kosovo to lead 25+ volunteering groups with 20+ youth participants each. These groups design and implement Service Learning projects in their community, leaving a permanent positive impact for thousands of beneficiaries. Service Learning projects are directed towards the improvement of a community, which also help volunteers develop skills that increase their chance of future employment.
Impact
50+ Teachers and youth workers from all over Kosovo will be trained in innovative teaching techniques - making their teaching more engaging and practical for their students. 500 Young people will gather in volunteer groups and develop important professional skills while implementing their projects. Urban and rural communities in Kosovo will benefit from the improved community environment (e.g. new playgrounds, improved parks, anti-littering campaigns etc) resulting from the projects.
Challenge
Kosovo has a large youth potential as 25% of the population is under 19 years old. But, most of this youth lacks practical and professional skills necessary for their employment, according to both national and international assessment tests. The education system has proved to be inadequate in preparing them for the labour market, as demonstrated by the fact that 53% of youth in 2017 were unemployed. TOKA's extracurricular activities assist participating youth to build the skills they need.
