Story

The project wants to guarantee daily meals, medical care and schooling for orphans or abandoned children in the Nginda village, Kenya, supporting the families of this community to properly take care of needy children. The other objective is the awareness of the population and social integration of the many children left to themselves.

Impact

Thanks to the education and care received, young people will be able to start small local development projects and they will contribute to the improvement of their community. As a result, they will be less driven to abandon the village. Moreover the project directly involves the local community, which has already activated in order to find solution to this issue. This project will infuse an even stronger sense of integration and social cohesion which will benefit the whole community.

Challenge

Due to an economy based on subsistence agriculture, the families living in the municipality of Nginda face a condition of extreme poverty. In this region, the mortality rate due to childbirth is high, because of inadequate medical care. This leads to a high number of orphans and abandoned children, who are left to themselves, without medical care and adequate daily meals. The abandoned children are often forced to live on the street, becoming victims of prostitution or other forms of slavery.
