Support Vulnerable Children in Monze, Zambia
Story
At PIZZ, Mrs. Veronica Sianga and her dedicated team including teachers and care-givers, love and care for more than 500 vulnerable children. All are from very poor families (about half of them orphaned). They give them a lot of support, an excellent education and help them grow in maturity, self esteem and confidence. It is a wonderfully inspiring special place! Sadly, at the moment younger classes are closed during Covid-19 lockdown, meaning a need for even more community support.
Impact
The project is currently providing education and a stable community for more than 500 disadvantaged children in the school itself and a further 80 students in further education. It will give them with an opportunity to obtain long term employment to enable them to support both themselves and their families.
Challenge
1 million+ children in Zambia are bereaved orphans of HIV - 10% of the population! Many others too are vulnerable, living with distant relatives in very poor and overcrowded houses, working on the streets to support themselves. A dangerous existence! Child prostitution is common, as are accidents, abuse and illness. Most cannot afford uniforms, shoes or even pencils to attend a government school. These days too they are battling worsening Covid with its consequent anxiety, risk and restrictions.
