Support sexual violence survivor-activists
Story
Sexual violence survivors are increasingly becoming their own advocates, working tirelessly to demand their rights in relation to justice. They are not however always given the chance to adopt an activist role. Thus, capacity-building of survivors is key and can lead to their enhanced empowerment and involvement as agents of change. To contribute to this, we will organise a training-of-trainers on better understanding all forms of sexual violence and using this knowledge in advocacy efforts.
Impact
At the individual level, survivors will gain both the tools and confidence to carrying out advocacy and awareness-raising activities. Furthermore, as sexual violence is better understood, laws, policies and practices can be developed to address sexual violence more effectively.
Challenge
Survivors are currently not sufficiently given the opportunity to meaningfully participate in decisions that affect them. At the same time, they are organising themselves and effectively fighting for justice. In many contexts however, they lack proper tools to advocate for their rights, despite a strong willingness to do so. In short, the current challenges are supporting them in understanding the broader issue, and providing tools the lack of tools to advocate with policy and decision-makers.
