Teach 36 children with limited English to read
Story
This project will prepare 36+ children aged 6-12 for whom English is a second language and who struggle with learning to read in their schools. Our program is designed to improve children's literacy skills focusing on the basic skills for reading. Children with special needs and children from different language background are our valuable participants.
Impact
Literacy Master Map program is created for all children with special needs in participating with other children who are without disabilities. We are ready to teach 6-12 children with autism from bilingual/bi-cultural environment. They will get basic reading and communication instructions from bilingual specialists, and it will be helpful to increase student's literacy abilities and to help them to close the achievement gap.
Challenge
Students from bilingual communities who have limited English and who need to get some special reading instructions have a dual challenge developing literacy skills. In addition to learning a second language, there is the problem of a low level of literacy in native language or family language. This deficiency initiates the achievement gap in early learners which continues then throughout school.
