Thank our Forest Guards this World Ranger Day
Story
Forests give life and protecting these lands are the unsung front-line soldiers - the forest guards. Being a forest guard is a commitment of a lifetime - a life rife with dangers every step of the way. In this appeal we highlight the threats they face -most extreme being on-duty death or disability- and also the paucity of resources within which they operate. These men and women are critical for conservation and Wildlife Trust of India is supplementing their needs since 20 years.
Impact
31st July is yearly celebrated as the World Ranger Day and it's just round the corner. Recognising the contribution of India's frontline forest staff to secure its natural heritage, we invite you to contribute to this celebration. Join us as we stand by our heroes and their families to keep them motivated in their selfless service to wild. As much as we need them, they need our support. Donate for the Guardians of the Wild. Your contribution today is your recognition of their service to nature.
Challenge
Forest guards and their families face constant threats to life from poachers and timber mafias. Add to this patrolling difficult terrain on foot in inclement weather and encounters with wild animals. The lack of facilities- equipment, medical care, safety systems- does not deter them from discharging their duties. They know their job is crucial and are determined to protect wildlife. But being the 'unsung heroes', they do suffer every day.
