The Phuleli Community Health Center
Story
The establishment of the Phuleli Community Health Center will provide much needed free healthcare services to several villages in the southern Solukhumbhu region of Nepal. Phase 1 construction of the facility is now complete, and this campaign will support the Phase 2 implementation, including the purchasing of equipment/supplies, staffing, facility management, and delivery of services. Our goal is to bring affordable quality healthcare to multiple rural villages in Nepal.
Impact
The goal of the Phuleli Community Health Center is to improve healthcare outcomes in 5 rural Nepali villages. Prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions will lead to healthier, more productive and engaged communities. The immediate use as a COVID-19 relief facility will reduce the current surge and facilitate treatment for those already infected. This program will help eliminate the unequal distribution of healthcare delivery in Nepal resulting in better health outcomes.
Challenge
Nepal's doctor/person ratio is nearly 4x lower than that recommended by WHO. This is further reduced in rural areas since most healthcare infrastructure is in the Kathmandu Valley. Many rural communities lack healthcare facilities completely and villagers must travel, often by foot, to receive care. This leads to rural populations with increased risks of developing infections and mortalities from communicable diseases (including COVID-19), malnutrition, and other serious conditions.
