Mission

Humane Canada (Formerly known as The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies) is the national organization representing Humane Societies and SPCA's in Canada. We bring together those who work with and care for animals to promote respect and humane treatment toward all animals. Our vision is our long term desired outcome for our organization and for animal welfare in Canada. Our mission guides our actions and defines our approach to move towards that vision. Our values are the principles and approaches with which we do our work.

Animal Cruelty Legislation

Health & Physical Wellbeing
Animals & Biodiversity
Canada

Did you know that a new bill to change Canada's 120- year old animal cruelty law was passed by all parties in the House of Commons twice in 2003, but the Senate stood in its way? Did you know that the outdated wording of the current law prevents the prosecution of many serious animal abusers? Only with your support can we intensify our efforts to re-engage MPs on the need for updated animal cruelty legislation.

Humane Treatment of Farm Animals

Animals & Biodiversity
Canada

More than 800 million animals are slaughtered for food in Canada yearly. Canadians assumes government ensures the humane treatment of farm animals and are shocked to discover there are no regulations stipulating the treatment of animals on the farm, other than animal cruelty laws, used only to prosecute egregious abuse. To counter this, we negotiate directly with farmers to improve standards of care while advocating for tough laws through meetings, petitions and letter-writing campaigns

Help Put an End to Puppy Mills in Canada

Animals & Biodiversity
Canada

We need your help to put an end to puppy mills, which are factories churning out puppies for profit, with zero regard for their well being. There are no reliable Canadian statistics on the scope of puppy mills. A conservative estimate puts the number of puppy mills in Canada in the thousands. Humane Canada wants to raise public awareness on how to avoid puppy mills. If the demand ceases, the supply will too.

National Pet Food Bank Program

Animals & Biodiversity
COVID-19
Canada

Humane Canada will establish an effective, efficient and sustainable model for a cross-Canada pet food bank program providing short term aid to companion animal guardians experiencing financial hardship. This program will help vulnerable companion animals to stay with their families during the deepening financial crisis.
