With your support, Guitars & Ukes in the Classroom will provide instruments, medical & physical adaptive tools & teacher/caregiver training in music facilitation so students experiencing profound life altering medical, psychological & physical conditions due to chronic, longterm and terminal illnesses and injuries, as well as those removed from their homes by Child Protective Services and awaiting foster care can receive the healing, learning and life-changing power of learning to make music.

Many students in continuation and alternative high schools in high-poverty neighborhoods in Los Angeles Unified are struggling with hunger, housing insecurity, vulnerability, and the daily strain of racism and economic hardship. Removed from their main high schools after falling behind academically, they attend Continuation Schools and receive support to graduate on time. This project gives them instruction, a guitar & supplies for learning to play, sing, and build creativity and leadership!

Students with "exceptionalities" have every right to enjoy and learn from making music. No matter what their exceptionalities may be, neurological, physical, emotional, cognitive, behavioral or trauma-induced, these conditions should not impair their access to the benefits that come from making music. This campaign offers you a chance to help our organization take down the barriers to musical participation by students in special day programs by training their teachers to lead music adaptively.

By training PreK-8 teachers to lead music, you'll bring music making & more effective learning to this generation & those to come. Students of all ages will gain the chance to engage enthusiastically in lessons in all subjects through strumming, writing and singing lyrics for learning! Your gift will support 1300 teachers to reach 117,000 students with music in school in 2018-19. By making music an exciting part of everyday, you will empower American children to achieve their goals & dreams.

This project will produce a book of songs to equip teachers and families to help children facing difficulty from everyday struggles, loss or trauma whether they're having a hard day, a hard time or a hard life. The book/CD will help impart hope, build resilience & restore joy. This project is almost ready to put into book form now! Support GITC to chart, record and produce these brand new printable songbooks/CDs for people teaching and caring for children and donate copies for 300 classrooms!
