Family-like Care for Taiwan High-risk Children
Story
This project sets up family-like childcare institutes in Taiwan communities. Vulnerable children don't need to leave hometown to live in a children's home but can grow up in a familiar community, and have a sense of security. From daily routine training to character building, holistic education are provided for children. It is an innovative service to keep children and parents connected and reduce the family financial and caring burdens, aiming to rebuild the family relationship and system.
Impact
It helps rebuild family systems and relationships, provides parents with good parenting education, family support/ family events, children with self-reliance training, talent learning, tutoring, self-exploration, and helps children to be taken good care of in the communities. The funds will be used for children's meals, daily supplies, household necessities, education materials, books, etc. to provide children with abundant and proper resources in care; with a total of 600 children benefited.
Challenge
In Taiwan, some parents need to leave home long to work for living so they couldn't take care of their children in person; some parents depend on temporary works so that they have meager income. In these cases, children may be sent to their relatives or live in residential placement facilities in other cities, which keeps children and parents apart. Leaving home increases the fear in children's hearts and may cause psychological distortions and trauma, end up in deviant behaviors in the future.
