Food Packages for 200 Families Impacted by COVID19
Story
This project will provide emergency relief to 200 families affected by COVID-19 and hunger. Recent lockdown measures in Cambodia have aggravated disparities and caused a food security crisis. As of 29 April 2021, Cambodians were ordered to stay home and those who lived in "Red Zones" were prohibited from leaving except to seek medical care. Many people who formerly subsisted on meager wages are now without work. They are in need of food and basic necessities in order to support their families.
Impact
This project addresses the immediate needs of families impacted by the economic, social, and health disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Cambodia. While this response is a short-term solution to the needs of these families, Peace Bridges will continue to support and nurture its network of peacebuilders who live throughout the country. This is an example of how the peace builder network can be leveraged to support their communities in a time of acute need.
Challenge
The economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has increased food insecurity and poverty in Cambodia. In April of 2021, the government imposed strict lockdown measures, prohibiting people from leaving their homes except to seek medical attention. Government aid has been sparse and unevenly distributed. Many people are now jobless, especially those who worked in the informal economy in Phnom Penh. As a result, many families are lacking basic necessities, especially food.
