Food security in Cundinamarca
Story
Our project is based in 5 semiurban and rural towns, located in the metropolitan region of Bogota, where 100 families participate. We promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables through food education and agroecological practices in communitarian orchards and edible forests. We will provide entrepreneurship workshops to improve livelihoods and empower them in their economic development, such as marketing, finance, administration and communications practical classes.
Impact
Enhance eating habits of 100 families in Cundinamarca, improve their Food security in two dimensions: consumption and access. Create an agroecological food system that lasts sustainable itself through seedlings reproduction and seedlings exchange between the families. The importance of soil restoration through compost processes and biodiversity preservation are the keys to respond to the challenge of feeding a growing population in a context of climate crisis.
Challenge
In Colombia 54.2% of families face food insecurity (ENSIN 2015), this means that more than a half of them do not have a minimum of three meals each day, besides they do not have access to the necessary nutrients to ensure a healthy life and develop their capabilities. On the other hand, COVID-19 raised unemployment and gender inequality, and the war on Ukraine skyrocket food prices, FAO estimated food is 20% more expensive than in 2021, this has worsened food insecurity.
